MET Opera Live: Aida (2018)
Verdi’s showstopping drama combines tragedy and passion in Ancient Egypt, where the protagonist Aida lives a ruinous life of slavery. Superstar soprano Anna Netrebko makes her Met role debut as Aida, an Ethiopian slave who has fallen in love with warrior Radame (Aleksandrs Antonkenko). Unbeknownst to Aida, princess Amneris (Anita Rachvelishvili) is an implacable rival for Radame’s affections and is willing to go to extremes for her infatuation.
With heart-stopping music and spectacular set pieces, including the famous Triumphal March, Verdi’s towering masterpiece opens the Met Opera season with a bang.
