From trailblazing, Emmy-winning writer Lena Waithe and visionary director Melina Matsoukas comes Makeready’s unflinching new drama, Queen & Slim.
While on a forgettable first date together in Ohio, a black man and a black woman, are pulled over for a minor traffic infraction. The situation escalates, with sudden and tragic results, when the man kills the police officer in self-defense. Terrified and in fear for their lives they are forced to go on the run.
Following the screening there will be a panel discussion with Ebony Amoroso, Director of Inclusion at Endeavour Entertainment, Rheuma Robinson & Saju Ahmed from Leeds Young Authors who will also be performing spoken word poetry after the discussion, written in response to Queen & Slim. Mia Bays, Oscar-winning producer and Director-at-Large will be hosting the panel.
This screening is presented in collaboration with Reclaim The Frame, a mission to bring ever-greater audiences to films by women to widen and enrich cinema’s perspective of the world, run by charity Birds’ Eye View, and backed by the British Film Institute’s Audience Fund.
