Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer is the English-language film debut of Academy Award-nominated US-born Israeli writer/director Joseph Cedar (Footnote and Beaufort). This is the comic and compassionate story of Norman Oppenheimer. With a stellar cast including Richard Gere, Lior Ashkenazi and Michael Sheen, Norman is a humble New York fixer, in Cedar’s re-imagining of an archetypal tale that has played out in history and literature for thousands of years: the Court Jew.
Norman, played by Gere, lives a lonely life in the margins of New York City power and money. Always on the lookout for someone willing to pay attention to him, Norman sets his sights on Micha Eshel (Ashkenazi), a charismatic Israeli politician alone in New York at a low point in his career. When Eshel becomes the Israeli Prime Minister three years later, Norman discovers that cashing in on his connection is more complicated than he thought.
The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with Lior Ashkenazi.
