Another directional debut for 2018, Corey Finley's black comedy Thoroughbreds was inspired by his own dalliance with the wealthy elite of Connecticut, and brazenly holds up a mirror up to a nihilistic world where your social class defines you.
Not your typical teenage drama, Thoroughbreds follows Lily (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Amanda (Olivia Cooke) as they reconnect after a long separation period. Despite having grown apart and their obvious inate differences, the two rich kids are drawn together through a mutual hatred of Lily's step-father, a connection that realises some ugly truths.
Remaining true to his vision, Corey has produced a tense psychological thriller that's as sharp as a papercut.
