In 1967 the world’s first ‘it’ brand was created. Elio Fiorucci took his namesake Italian family business and turned it into an international icon of style, hype and glamour, tapping into the zeitgeist in the way no fashion brand had done before. Over the next two decades, Fiorucci became synonymous with the sweaty, qualuude infused glamour of disco era New York. Stopped in its tracks by the cultural shifts brought about by recession and the devastating tragedy of the AIDS crisis, Fiorucci was shuttered in 1988, living on as a hazy memory and achieving the status of fashion legend.
In 2017, middle-aged divorced British high-street entrepreneurial duo Stephen and Janie Schaffer, having acquired the keys to the Fiorucci warehouse in a last minute deal with a mysterious Japanese holding company, took it upon themselves to bring the brand back, aiming to recreate the glamour and hysteria of it’s 70s New York heyday, today, in London, and in a completely changed world.
You Will Be With Us In Paradise follows the Schaffers as they embark on the final - and most ambitoius - project of their working lives, in the face of naysaying from fashion luminaries such as Diane Von Furstenberg and Oliviero Toscani, who appear in the film to share their most candid opinions, alongside stunning never before seen archival footage.
