What you need to know...

Blood is thicker than any curse.

Twenty eight years after the original turned a whole generation into amateur witches, Practical Magic 2 arrives at Everyman on 11 September 2026. Directed by Susanne Bier, whose credits stretch from the Oscar winning “In a Better World” to “The Night Manager”, the sequel reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as screen sisters for the first time since 1998, proof that some family ties, cursed or not, are worth holding onto.

Bullock and Kidman return as Sally and Gillian Owens, the witches whose bloodline has spent centuries losing every man who dares fall in love with them. This time the trouble stays close to home: Sally's two grown daughters, Kylie (Joey King) and Antonia (Maisie Williams), start uncovering powers and secrets of their own, pulling aunts Frances and Jet, played once again by Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, straight back into business they thought was long buried. Lee Pace and Solly McLeod round out the cast as new arrivals.

Adapting Alice Hoffman's own novel The Book of Magic, the third in her Practical Magic series, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the 1998 original, returns alongside co-writer Georgia Pritchett to send the Owens clan from Massachusetts across the Atlantic in search of where the curse first took hold. Producer Denise Di Novi, who shepherded the original to cult status, is back too, this time alongside Bullock and Kidman themselves as fellow producers, keeping the sequel's sense of sisterhood intact even as the story widens to take in a whole new generation of Owens women.

Expect the same bittersweet mix of heartbreak, hexes and sisterly bickering that made the first film a slow burn favourite, now stretched across a second generation still working out how much magic runs in the family.

Did you know?

Nicole Kidman marked the end of filming, twenty seven years after the original, with an Instagram video of herself and Sandra Bullock walking hand in hand into the sunset across an open field, captioned "That's a wrap on Practical Magic 2! Thank you to the cast and crew for all your magic." Fittingly for a story that sends the Owens women across the Atlantic, part of the shoot took place in England, including at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and on location in Devon.
