What you need to know...

Ohana means family and family is coming back to the big screen at Everyman!

Disney’s beloved Lilo & Stitch is returning in a brand-new live-action reimagining, inviting audiences to fall in love all over again with the heartwarming, hilarious, and slightly chaotic bond between a lonely Hawaiian girl and her genetically engineered blue “dog” from outer space.

Originally released in 2002, the animated classic became a cult favourite thanks to its emotional storytelling, irresistible characters, and Elvis Presley-fuelled soundtrack. Now, over two decades later, Disney is breathing new life into the tale with a visually stunning update that combines heartfelt nostalgia with a fresh island breeze.

The story follows Lilo Pelekai, a spirited young girl being raised by her older sister Nani on the lush island of Kauai. Struggling to fit in and still grieving the loss of her parents, Lilo finds unexpected companionship in Stitch, an alien experiment originally designed for destruction. Crash-landing on Earth while fleeing galactic authorities, Stitch pretends to be a dog to avoid capture and ends up being adopted by Lilo. What follows is a hilarious and moving journey of friendship, redemption, and the unbreakable power of chosen family.

Zach Galifianakis leads the voice cast as Jumba Jookiba, the eccentric alien scientist who created Stitch, while Maia Kealoha makes her debut as Lilo, bringing a wide-eyed sincerity to the role. Sydney Agudong stars as Nani, with Chris Sanders returning to voice Stitch just as he did in the original animated film.

Behind the camera is director Dean Fleischer Camp, best known for the critically acclaimed Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. His unique sensibility for combining heartfelt storytelling with quirky humour makes him the perfect match for this interstellar tale. The film blends practical effects and CGI to bring Stitch and his extraterrestrial antics vividly to life, while retaining the emotional depth and cultural richness that made the original so special.

This live-action remake promises to honour the spirit of the original while exploring deeper character dynamics and delivering jaw-dropping visuals. Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering the story for the first time, Lilo & Stitch is a reminder that family can come from the most unexpected places.

Playing in Everyman cinemas from the 21 May.
