Jacaranda Books Presents: The Spook Who Sat By the Door + Live Q&A

1h 42m
The Spook Who Sat by the Door is a politically charged landmark in American cinema, directed by Ivan Dixon and adapted from Sam Greenlee's provocative novel. Set during the height of the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, the film follows Dan Freeman, the CIA's first Black agent, who uses his government training to form a guerrilla militia of young Chicago gang members to initiate a Black urban uprising. More than a gripping narrative, the film serves as a searing critique of institutional racism and a radical vision of Black liberation. Suppressed for decades due to its revolutionary message, now returns in a 4K restoration over 50 years later to reclaim its place in film history. In collaboration with Jacaranda's Books' recent republication of The Spook Who Sat by The Door, we bring you the film in conversation with the book that sparked its imaginings, followed by specially curated Q&A's. The Spook Who Sat By The Door will be available to purchase at all screenings and also online at jacarandabooks.co.uk at 35% off automatically applied at check out.
