The ocean is calling at Everyman. 

After directing the stage-to-screen phenomenon of Hamilton, Thomas Kail takes the helm of one of Disney's most beloved modern stories. Moana sails into Everyman on 10 July 2026, bringing the vibrant, wayfinding adventure to the big screen in a massive live-action reimagining.

Newcomer, Catherine Laga'aia steps into the title role, playing the headstrong teenager who feels an undeniable pull to the water. When a devastating ecological blight threatens her island of Motunui, Moana defies her father's strict rules and voyages far beyond the safety of the reef. Her mission is to track down Maui - the deeply arrogant, shape-shifting demigod, played once again by Dwayne Johnson in the flesh - and force him to restore the ancient heart of Te Fiti to save her people.

This isn't simply a digital recreation of the animated hit. Filmed largely on location across Hawaii, the production grounds the mythology in physical reality, leaning heavily into the rich Polynesian traditions that inspired the tale. Backed by a strong supporting cast featuring John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, it retains the musical DNA of Lin-Manuel Miranda's original soundtrack while feeling completely fresh.

Expect a visually stunning, incredibly heartfelt journey that trades animation for flesh-and-blood emotion. It remains a deeply human story about trusting your instincts, navigating the unknown, and discovering exactly who you are meant to be.

Did You Know?

Auliʻi Cravalho, who famously voiced Moana in the 2016 animated film, actively chose not to reprise her role in live-action. Instead, she stayed on as an executive producer to help cast Catherine Laga'aia, stating it was vital to pass the baton to a new young woman of Pacific Island descent to ensure the story remained authentic.
