In I Swear, director Kirk Jones (Waking Ned, Nanny McPhee) brings to the screen the extraordinary true story of John Davidson, a Scottish teenager diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome at age 15. The film combines heartfelt drama with moments of dark comedy, exploring how one young man navigates misunderstanding, stigma, and the challenge of finding his voice in a world that struggles to understand him.

Set in 1980s Scotland, the story follows John (Robert Aramayo) as he grows up in a society unprepared for his condition. From schoolyard challenges to family struggles, John’s journey is both deeply personal and relatable, showing how determination, humor, and human connection can transform lives.

Joining Aramayo is Maxine Peake as Dottie Achenbach, Shirley Henderson as Heather Davidson, and Peter Mullan as Tommy Trotter. The ensemble brings authenticity to the story, while Sanjeev Kohli and Steven Cree round out the cast, portraying the community that shapes John’s life and advocacy.

With on-location filming across East Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire, and Glasgow, I Swear captures the atmosphere of 1980s Scotland.. Robert Aramayo reportedly spent time with John and his family to bring a true-to-life performance that balances humor, heart, and resilience.
