What you need to know...
Chaos, politics, and personal stakes collide in One Battle After Another, the long-awaited first collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson (Liquorice Pizza, There Will Be Blood). Inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland, this bold satire is equal parts black comedy, political drama, and action spectacle.
Leonardo DiCaprio leads the star-studded ensemble as Bob Ferguson, a former revolutionary forced to return to the fray when his daughter is kidnapped and a past nemesis resurfaces after 16 years. His target? Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw, played by Sean Penn, a ruthless police officer entwined in a white supremacist conspiracy

Anderson updates Pynchon’s themes for the modern era, exploring the fallout of activism across decades and the way past revolutions echo into the present. Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, and Alana Haim join the mission as fiercely committed comrades, while Taylor’s character mother to DiCaprio’s daughter adds a deeply personal dimension to the fight. Rounding out the powerhouse cast are Benicio del Toro, Wood Harris, and Shayna McHale.
DiCaprio and Anderson films consistently earn critical acclaim and strong box office attention, making their first collaboration one of the most talked-about projects of the year.
With a $110 million budget, by far the largest of Anderson’s career, the film blends social satire with high-stakes action sequences, promising something unlike anything the director has attempted before. Expect razor-sharp dialogue, thrilling set pieces, and a story that resonates far beyond the screen.
